Life in the Adirondacks

October 9, 2015 - Morgan Ryan
One of the best things about living in the Adirondacks is being able to work a full day then go for a hike and see this:

We left the trailhead on route 73, just south of Keene Valley at about 4:30. We were headed for Snow Mountain.

A long boardwalk spilled us onto an easy trail that brought us along the shoreline of the small pond behind Keene Central School.

The trail was clearly marked as we climbed steadily up toward Rooster Comb and Lower Wolf Jaw.

We hung a left toward Snow Mountain.

The final push to the top was a little steep in spots ...

But totally worth it once we got there ...

The hike down went pretty quickly. We had to hustle to make it out before dark.

We didn’t end up getting the head lamps out, but probably should have. It was completely dark by the time we got back to the car around 7 o’clock.

Here are some stats from my fancy new smart phone:

Total distance: 4.66 miles

Duration: 2:35:37

Start time: 4:24

Elevation gain: 1244 feet

Average pace: 33:22 per mile
