Starting to show some weight-loss progress

February 1, 2019 - Andy Flynn
January was a tough month, but I got through it OK with 6 pounds down on my latest quest to lose weight.

I spent half the month sick, like a lot of other people in the Tri-Lakes region, so I haven’t been to the Fitness Revolution gym much over the past four weeks. I’d rather not spread my germs around and get other people sick.

Therefore, the 451 on my scale — compared to the 457 recorded four weeks ago — was a pleasant surprise.

At the beginning of the year, I decided to track down the secrets to my success of losing 80 pounds during the first year of my Lake Placid Diet weight-loss journey in 2014. I found a couple.

Two things that helped me in January were staying away from fast food and processed food. Otherwise, I didn’t really work on the diet at all. Most of my exercise time was spent in the driveway shoveling snow, and there was plenty of that.

I look forward to finding more of those secrets to my success by re-reading the Lake Placid Diet columns from 2014 and 2015 and buckling down on what I know works for me.

Luckily, I have the columns from those first 18 months conveniently published in a book titled, “Lake Placid Diet: How the Olympic Village Saved My Life,” so I can just thumb through the chapters anywhere I go. They are also available on the Lake Placid News website.

Whenever I lose weight, people want to know how I did it so they can do the same thing and have magical results. I try to remind people that everybody is different. What works for me may not work for you. At the same time, what works for me may actually work for you, so I’m happy to share my journey, hoping that it helps, even if it simply shows that you are not alone in your weight-loss journey.

Have a fun February!
