February Recap and BIG NEWS!

February 28, 2012 - Christie Sausa
Hi all,

It's been a busy February in Lake Placid; our brief respite from snow ended last week, when the region received at least 6 inches of snow.

At the beginning of the month, the Empire State Games were held in Lake Placid. I wrote about both the figure skating and speed skating events. In case you missed it, catch up on the skating sports at the links to the right of the post.

Sources at the Olympic Center confirm that Lake Placid will host a Junior Grand Prix competition at the end of summer 2012. Online it reports that the JGP competition will be the second event of the 2012-2013 season, and will be held from August 29th - September 2nd. Similar to Senior Grand Prix events, Junior Grand Prix events are invitationals held throughout the world to test the skills of Junior skaters. Points are awarded at each event, and those with the highest number of points qualify for the Jr Grand Prix Final (this year in Sochi, Russia with the Senior Level Grand Prix Final).

The last Junior Grand Prix event in Lake Placid was in 2007.

Until next time......
