TRIP REPORT: Sunny day on Table Top, Phelps

October 22, 2012 - Morgan Ryan
Here are a few photos of Saturday's hike up Table Top and Phelps mountains. The weather forecast earlier in the week was calling for a high likelihood of rain for much of the day, but we didn't see one drop. The mountains were in the clouds as I drove to the trailhead on Adirondack Loj Road, but they had mostly cleared by the time we got back in the woods.

The Van Hoevenberg Trail crosses Phelps Brook after 3.5 miles. The brook was running high and fast.

The turn-off for Table Top is 0.1 miles below Indian Falls. These guys took advantage of the flowing water at the falls as we enjoyed the view of Algonquin (behind cloud) and Wright.

The view from Table Top is partially obstructed, but those can be just as good at times. That's Mount Marcy between the trees and Haystack off to the left.

I was amazed how many people were out on the trails Saturday. Here's a group hanging out near the top of Table Top.

We saw even more people on top of Phelps. Good thing there are a lot of lookout points on the mountain. This family set up shop right on the peak for a heated lunch.

Great view of the McIntyres from the summit of Phelps.
