LAKE PLACID — Daniel Mark Dickerson, 48, of 21 Ashwood Way, Lake Placid, suddenly passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 with his life companion by his side at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake after an extended illness.
He was born April 19, 1962, in the Keene Valley Hospital.
The family lived in Jay. He grew up at Moraine State Park in Pennsylvania where he attended and graduated from Slippery Rock area schools, where many of his childhood friends still reside. He was a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, and practiced his craft in New Jersey before returning to the North Country, where he worked for several restaurants in the Lake Placid area.
Dan was a writer of poems and an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dan considered himself an Adirondacker and returning to the Adirondacks fulfilled his dreams.
Survivors include his father, Milton Dickerson, and companion Katherine Mackinnon of Jay; his brother William of Tampa, Fla.; sister Carol Dickerson of Hanover, Pa.; niece Katie and nephew Andrew of Tampa, Fla.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and his longtime life companion, Heather Fran Wright, also of Lake Placid.
He was predeceased by his mother, Anne Wentz Dickerson.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, July 5 at the Whiteface Community Methodist Church in Wilmington.
