LAKE PLACID — Herbert A. Rock, 80, passed away Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010 at the AMC-Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.
Mr. Rock was born in Saranac Lake July 24, 1930, the son of Herbert and Florence Stevens Rock.
He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a chef and for many years worked at the Mirror Lake Inn and later at the Crowne Plaza, both in Lake Placid. Herb enjoyed hunting, fishing and poker.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Howe of Lake Placid; three sisters: Margaret Kelly, Muriel Hewitt and Dorothy Winslow; four daughters: Debbie Moody, Norma Rock, Elaine Urbanowicz and husband Peter, and Jane Shanty and husband Bruce; and four sons: Herbert Rock III and his wife Peggy, Harold “Pete” Rock, Alan Rock and Timothy Rock and wife Mary Ellen; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours at the funeral home. There will be a graveside service at the St. Agnes Cemetery in Lake Placid at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27. The Rev. Patrick O’Reilly will officiate. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.
