The Blue Bombers downed Elizabethtown in their first game Thursday, Sept. 8, then beat Seton Catholic in an exciting 2-1 victory Saturday, Sept. 10. Lake Placid came back Tuesday, Sept. 13 to tie Moriah 0-0 and set its record at 2-0-1.
On the road against Moriah, the Blue Bombers held a 25-5 advantage in shots, but were unable to muster a goal.
“Lake Placid dominated the play, but could not find the back of the net,” said Lake Placid coach Heather Brewer after the game. “Moriah’s keeper played a strong game.”
Moriah’s Hayley Waldron made 18 saves in the game, while Lake Placid goalkeeper Liz Leff stopped all five shots she faced.
On Saturday, Sept. 10, Carissa Kennedy scored the game-winning goal at the 1:39 mark of the second half on a cross from Kendra Manning. Mackenzie Kemmerer scored the Blue Bombers first goal midway through the first half on a feed from Payton Barney, but Seton answered before the end of the half to tie the game at 1-1.
Leff stopped six shots in the Seton Catholic game.
In the season-opener, Lake Placid scored two goals in the second half to secure the victory over Elizabethtown. Barney and Brooke Reid accounted for the Blue Bombers’ goals.
“The team did a nice job keeping the pressure on E-town’s defense,” Brewer said. “Ayla Thompson played a strong game on defense and Payton Barney and Mackenzie Kemmerer had strong games up front.”
The Blue Bombers outshot Elizabethtown 11-4 over the course of the game.
Lake Placid has the weekend off before returning to action Tuesday, Sept. 20 at Ticonderoga. The Blue Bombers are back home Thursday, Sept. 22 against Chazy.
