LAKE PLACID — With an opportunity to complete a regular-season sweep, the Lake Placid boys soccer players came up way short of the objective Tuesday, Oct. 4 with a 6-1 loss to Seton Catholic.

The host Blue Bombers earned a one-goal road victory over the Knights last month, but fell into a big hole in the rematch by giving up four goals in the opening half and then two more in the second stanza to trail 6-0.

Ed Kane, who was in goal for Lake Placid in the first half, allowed his team to avert the shutout when he scored a late goal.

Adam Tedford led Seton Catholic with a hat trick, T.J. Orrichio, Patrick Maddix and Keegan Frenya each scored once and Cody Quantock chipped in a pair of assists for the winners.

Both teams had solid midfield play in the early stages of the game, but the Knights took control with a three-goal barrage late in the half. Tedford opened the scoring with a goal 15:59 into the match. Maddix then upped Seton Catholic’s lead to 2-0 when he tallied at the 26:40 mark.

Tedford netted his second at the 30-minute mark and Frenya came up with the backbreaker when he took control of a corner kick from Quantock and ripped a shot off the post and into the net with just 17 seconds left in the first half.

Holding a 4-0 edge, the Knights continued to keep up the pressure in the second half. Tedford buried a shot 10:30 into the half for his third goal, and Orrichio scored the sixth Seton Catholic goal with 14:30 remaining in the game. Kane tacked on Lake Placid’s lone goal on a direct kick with three minutes remaining on the clock. Kane’s goal came when his team was down a player, who was red-carded in the middle of the second half.

Seton Catholic outshot Lake Placid 15-8.

Kane made two stops in nets for the Blue Bombers in the opening half, and J.P. Morrison recorded three saves for Lake Placid after intermission. Keegan Briggs made three saves to earn the win in nets for the Knights.

The Knights improved to 2-8 with the victory while Lake Placid fell to 2-6 in Division II play.

Lake Placid next plays Tuesday, Oct. 11 against Northern Adirondack.
