LAKE PLACID — Gertrude J. Hare, 92, of Cascade Road, Lake Placid, N.Y., passed away at her home Monday, Nov. 21, 2011.
She was born in Lake Placid March 13, 1919, the daughter of Rollie C. and Charlotte (Cram) Torrance.
She was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, Class of 1938.
Mrs. Hare enjoyed baking cakes and was called upon by family and friends for over 20 years to make birthday cakes, wedding cakes and cakes for all occasions.
She was the wife of Walter L. Hare. Mr. Hare died May 11, 2007.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth Hare and his wife Carolyn of Lake Placid; one daughter, Ada Smith and her husband Stephen of Keene; her brother, Kenneth Torrance of Lake Placid; and her sister, Marion Spance and her husband Al of Ohio. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home following calling hours at 2 p.m. The Rev. Alfred Trembley, pastor of the First Wesleyan Church in Hague, will officiate. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.
