Bombers hockey keeps rolling along

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Lake Placid boys hockey team successfully defended its title in the Duke Nelson/Wendy Forbes Invitational Tournament, topping host Middlebury High School 2-0 in the championship game Thursday, Dec. 29.

With the win, the Blue Bombers captured the crown for the second year in a row.

Lake Placid didn't give up a goal in either of its two games during the tournament. On Wednesday, Dec. 28, Lake Placid notched a 6-0 first-round win over South Glens Falls to reach the final.

Lake Placid extended its unbeaten record to seven games with the tournament win. The Blue Bombers were scheduled to play on the road at Beekmantown on Wednesday, Jan. 4, before heading to Saranac Lake to take their rival on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

In a tight contest in Middlebury, Troy Jacques netted the game-winner for Lake Placid, lifting his team to a 1-0 advantage with a goal 5:47 into the third period. Dillon Savage and Dustin Jacques picked up assists on the goal.

Eddie Kane then gave the Blue Bombers some breathing room when he scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-0 with just over five minutes remaining in the game.

Lake Placid held a 21-16 edge in shots on goal over Middlebury.

Jeff Smith earned the shutout win in goal for the Blue Bombers with 16 saves.



Lake Placid 51, Westport 21

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid boys basketball team took control early and capitalized on a strong defensive effort Tuesday, Jan. 3 to down Westport 51-21 in a Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference game.

Logan Stephenson scored 18 points to lead the Blue Bombers, while and teammate Jacob Daniels wasn't far behind with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Lake Placid jumped out to a 12-2 advantage after the first quarter, then built on the lead in the second to go into the locker room at halftime ahead 22-8.

Daniels scored 16 of his 17 points in the first half.

The Blue Bombers limited Westport under 10 points in every quarter. Jonathan Gay had eight points and Ryan Davis hit for seven to lead the Eagles in scoring.

With the win, Lake Placid evened its conference record to 2-2 and overall mark to 3-3. Westport is 0-5 and 0-7.
