Chill’s season ends with third-place finish

GEORGIA, Vt. - The Adirondack Chill 16-and-under softball club went 4-1 and finished in third place Sunday in the Vermont State Championships played at Georgia Beach Park. The tournament brought the Chill's season to a close.

The Chill opened the tournament Saturday with a 10-6 victory over the Vermont Thunder I. Sydney Battistoni and Nicole Viscardo had three hits apiece, while Serina Hayes had two hits and four RBI and Erin McDonald had two singles. Alexa Prue was the winning pitcher.

Adirondack won its second game 10-7 against the Vermont Cougars, with Viscardo striking out four and walking four to earn the pitching win. Viscardo helped her own cause by knocking in three runs. Carissa Kennedy added two hits and Hayes and Jordy McDougall each had two RBI.

The Chill kept rolling in the third game with a 16-0 win over the Vermont Rippers. Hayes threw a two-hit shutout to earn the win, striking out seven and walking one.

Adirondack was seeded No. 2 for Sunday's single-elimination bracket. The Chill downed seventh-seeded Vermont Thunder 12-0. Prue picked up the pitching win after scattering three hits and striking out four without issuing a walk. Hayes, McDougall and Battistoni led the way offensively with two hits apiece.

The Chill lost their only game of the tournament in the semifinals, when the third-seeded Vermont Rockets advanced with an 8-6 victory. Four defensive errors resulted in four Rocket runs. Kennedy and McDougall led the Chill offensively with 3-for-4 performances. McDonald had two hits and Viscardo contributed four RBI.
