International face-off:USA hockey team tops Sweden 10-2

LAKE PLACID - Team USA routed Sweden, 10-2, helped by a six-goal scoring spree in the second period, Thursday at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid during the 2012 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp. Sweden plays Finland today at 4 p.m. and the camp concludes when the U.S. team faces off against Finland at 1 p.m. Saturday at the arena.

The players are trying out for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will take part in the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Ufa, Russia.

All games from the 2012 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp are being streamed live and are available on demand at FASTHockey.com.

The 2013 U.S. National Junior Team will be selected in late December following a pre-tournament camp from Dec. 19-23 to be held in Helsinki, Finland.

Phil Housley, head boy's ice hockey coach at Stillwater (Minn.) High School, is the head coach of the 2013 U.S. National Junior Team. He played defense for the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL from 1982-1990.

Housley's coaching staff includes: Mark Osiecki, head men's ice hockey coach at Ohio State University and Grant Potulny, assistant men's ice hockey coach at the University of Minnesota, Greg Brown, assistant men's ice hockey coach coach at Boston College, Joe Exter, assistant men's ice hockey coach at Ohio State University, Tony Granato (former New York Ranger), assistant coach for the National Hockey League's Pittsburgh Penguins and Don Lucia, head men's ice hockey coach at the University of Minnesota.
