Thompson scores game-winner for LP boys

WILLSBORO - Haile Thompson scored the game-winning goal early in the first half as the Lake Placid boys soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over Willsboro on Monday, Sept. 24.

On the scoring play in the seventh minute of play, Nzoni Thompson fired a shot on goal that was saved by Willsboro goalie Dakoda Latford. Haile Thompson claimed the rebound and directed the ball into the back of the net.

The Blue Bombers outshot Willsboro 15-6. Chris Kordziel stopped three shots for Lake Placid, which improved to 6-4 with the victory.

Willsboro is 1-6.

On Saturday, Sept 22, the Blue Bombers traveled to Saranac and came away with a 1-0 overtime loss. The night before, Lake Placid dropped a match against Chazy.

Chazy boys soccer team scored all its goals in the second half on the way to the 3-0 victory. After a scoreless first half, Hayden Guay broke through in the 56th minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Josh Barriere followed suit in the 68th minute on a pass from Nathan Reynolds and Reynolds capped off the scoring in the 70th minute.

"It was a disciplined performance against the best opposition we meet all season," said Lake Placid coach Stuart Hemsley. "Now to Saranac (Saturday) morning."

Kordziel stopped nine of the 12 shots he faced, while David Poitras made five saves for Chazy.

LAKE PLACID - The Saranac boys cross country team swept the top six spots Tuesday, Sept. 25 as the Chiefs ran away with team victories over Lake Placid and Northeastern Clinton.

Corey Detwiler was Lake Placid's top boys runner with his seventh place finish in 20:16. Saranac had four runners under 20 minutes, led by Ben Strack with a 19:27 and Zach LePage with a 19:32.

Lake Placid runners Curtis Rissberger placed ninth in 20:23, Trent White was 15th in 21:46, Forest Ledger was 16th in 21:48 and Karl Schulz was 18th in 22:29.

In the girls race, Northeastern Clinton's Samantha Smith placed first in 22:33. Lake Placid's Nina Armstrong was second in 23:05, Saranac's Lexi Blockson was third in 23:49 and Gabby Armstrong of Lake Placid was fourth in 24:29.

Lake Placid's Glenice Gallagher finished in 27:28.

NCCS didn't factor into the team scoring.
