The Lake Placid boys hockey team took a road trip downstate last weekend and came away with two victories over strong opponents to extend their unbeaten streak to five games.
The Blue Bombers (5-0) beat Mahopac 7-6 on Dec. 15 in Brewster and came back with 3-1 win over White Plains on Dec. 16.
Against Mahopac, Shane McNierney scored the game-winning goal 7:09 into the third period to give the Blue Bombers a 7-5 lead. Tommy Kuincic scored two minutes later for Mahopac, but Lake Placid was able to hold on for the victory.
Lake Placid had six different goal scorers. Keegan Barney, Ryan Meyer and Connor Preston each scored in the first period and R.J. Reid and Elias Smith scored in the second. Preston netted his second goal 1:46 into the third.
Jeffrey Smith stopped 34 shots in goal for the Blue Bombers, who were outshot 40-26 in the game. Tom Gilmore recorded 19 saves for Mahopac.
Against White Plains, Eddie Kane scored in the first period and freshman Noah Mohr tallied in the second as the Blue Bombers jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
White Plains got on the board 13:23 into the third period, but the Blue Bombers answered with a Barney goal to seal the victory.
Tucker Angelopoulos manned the net for the Blue Bombers against White Plains, making 13 saves. Lake Placid held a 28-14 advantage in shots.
It was the first loss of the season for White Plains.
