Barbara M. Kerigan

Barbara M. Kerigan, (ne McCarthy) died peacefully Friday January, 11, 2013 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake from scleroderma. She had vacationed in Wilmingtonsince the 1940s.

Barbara was born in Boston, MA on March 27, 1924, daughter of the late Dr. John H. McCarthy and Mae (Brown) McCarthy.

Barbara was raised in Swampscott and Belmont and later graduated from Regis College in Weston, MA. After college, Barbara married Joseph E. Kerigan, Jr. (now late) and moved with him to Springfield, MA and then to Longmeadow, MA, where they raised a loving family. She was a devout Catholic and said the Rosary and a Novena every day of her life since the age of 16.

Barbara enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her family. She was an avid golfer for most of her life and an expert bridge player until the end of her life. She was an active member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Longmeadow and a devoted and generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.

Barbara was predeceased by her sister Patricia Elder and her brother John (Jack) McCarthy.

She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Joseph E. and Mary Ellen Kerigan, III; three adoring granddaughters: Francine Rother and Kathleen and Elizabeth Kerigan; and great-granddaughter, Lillian Rother. She is also survived by her loving daughter and granddaughter, Cynthia A. (Kerigan) Lupo and Jordan Marie Lupo, as well as her sister-in-law, Arlette McCarthy and nine nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass was held on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at Saint Joseph's Church, 130 Commons St., Belmont, MA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church (www.stmarylong.org) in Longmeadow, MA.
