There was plenty of holiday colors over the weekend - red and green - but not just colors of Christmas. There were colors of rivalry.
First were the colors of the holiday season. And organizers of the Village Holiday Stroll, local businesses and residents, did another outstanding job of making the event a rousing success.
Children were happy, whether it was skating at the Olympic Center, taking part in the crafts events or visiting with Santa Claus. Adults were happy too, trying food samples along Main Street or getting some shopping done.
Local children helped make the event bright too, as several choruses from Lake Placid's school went around singing Christmas carols. The event shone bright with the annual Christmas tree lighting at Mid's Park.
But the rivalry came in with Clarkson Green and St. Lawrence Red. The Festivus Faceoff hockey match between Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University brought in a sea of additional green and red - and people.
Stroll and Festivus truly made for a great combination. Although it was indeed a rivalry, everyone was in good spirits. It was great to see Main Street busy and the Olympic Center packed.
Kudos to the organizers of the Holiday Village Stroll and to the Olympic Regional Development Authority for uniting two great events.
