John A. "Jack" Shea Jr. of Lake Placid, NY and Sanibel, FL died peacefully Sunday, January 27, 2013 from symptoms of Multiple System Atrophy. He was 78 years old.
A native son of Lake Placid, he was born November 22, 1934 and was a devoted son to the late John "Jack" and Elizabeth Shea.
Jack graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1953 and St. Lawrence University in Canton in 1957. After graduation, he served overseas in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 326 in Lake Placid. He then embarked on a 25-year career in banking and finance at The Northern Trust in Chicago. Jack served in numerous executive and industry capacities including past President of The Bond Club of Chicago and Butler National Golf Club. He also served on the Boards of Directors of several non-profit and financial institutions.
Raised in the Adirondacks, Jack was an avid outdoorsman and had an abiding love of the North Country. He traveled the world pursing his passion for fishing and golf; though he considered the brooks & ponds of the High Peaks and the back nine at Craig Wood home. He led many family trips to Ireland and loved all things Irish.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Stephanie; four children: Susan (Winston), Lisa (Benshop), John III and Robert; and five grandchildren: Ellen, Keenan, Averil, Annelise and Robert Jr.
The eldest of four boys, Jack was predeceased by his brother Patrick and survived by his brothers James and Michael, both of Lake Placid.
Jack's spirit of enthusiasm, generosity, and devotion to those he loved will be deeply missed. "May God hold him in the palm of his hand."
