DANSVILLE - Karl Schultz of Lake Placid was the top Section VII finisher in the NYSPHSAA boys 10-kilometer individual nordic championships race Feb. 25 at the Harriet Hollister Spencer Recreation Area.
Schultz placed 17th with a time of 34 minutes, 44.9 seconds. Austin Huneck of Shenendehowa won the race in 31:36.5, followed by Gavin Hess of Pittsford Mendon in 32:21.7 and Adam Luban of Old Forge in 32:36.3.
Other Lake Placid racers were Scottie Schultz, Henry McGrew and Grace McGrew. Scottie Schultz placed 36th in the individual race with a time of 39:38.6, Henry McGrew was 42nd in 41:07.8 and Grace McGrew was 41st in the girls race with a time of 40:24.5.
Saranac Lake skiers Elena Beideck and Bryce Hartman each received a sportsmanship award.
Beideck had a strong showing at the two-day event, placing 16th overall in the 7.5-kilometer individual race and turning in the 10th best relay split time.
Beideck clocked a time of 32 minutes, 56.8 seconds in the individual race that was won by Hannah Cole of Honeoye Falls-Lima in 28:42.1. Riley Douglas, also of HF-L was second in 29:54.6 and Megan Kellogg of Queensbury was third in 30:24.9.
Anna Izzo, Carolyn Dodd, Jackie Garso and Camryn Lieb joined Beideck to represent the Saranac Lake girls team. Izzo placed 23rd in 34:13.9, Dodd was 38th in 38:41.6, Garso was 44th in 44:09.3 and Lieb finished 45th in 47:19.3.
Hartman finished 26th in the boys race with a time of 37:16.2, while teammate Evan Greenberg finished 40th in 40:42.3.
The Lake Placid boys finished seventh in the team relay, while the Saranac Lake girls placed ninth in the relay.
