Ready to rescue

March 11, 2013
Lake Placid News
Twelve members of the Wilmington Fire and Rescue Squad, joined by three members of the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department and four members of the Upper Jay Volunteer Fire Department took part recently in a cold water rescue drill. Under the tutelage of state Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Ranger Chris Kostas, the firefighters slid into the frigid waters of the AuSable over the waterfall just yards from the bridge in the heart of Wilmington. Wilmington Fire Chief Louie Adragna said that the scenario practiced is typical of what would actually happen if someone had indeed fallen through the ice and required rescuing.
