Bombers track tops Patriots

LAKE PLACID - Lake Placid eighth-grader Gabby Armstrong showed some versatility Tuesday, May 7 as the Blue Bombers' girls track and field team beat visiting AuSable Valley 87-38.

Armstrong topped the field in all four of her events, winning the 400-meter race in 1:05, the 3,000 in 12:59, the high jump at 4 feet, 4 inches and taking part in the winning 400 relay team that crossed the line in 1:00.7.

Nina Armstrong and Rachael Ashley each won three events. Nina Armstrong won the 1,500 in 5:37 and the 800 in 2:42. She was also part of the winning 1,600 relay team that recorded a time of 4:42.

Ashley was also part of the 1,600 and 400 relay teams. Individually, she was the top long jumper with a 13-2 to beat teammate Lauren Rossi by 2 inches.

Lissy Ashley, another eighth-grader, was part of the 1,600 relay team and won the 400 hurdles in 1:23.7. Jillian Goulette was also a member of each of the winning relay teams.

In the boys' competition, AuSable Valley came away with the team victory, outscoring Lake Placid 89-33.

Lake Placid's Nzoni Thompson won two individual events and was on the winning 1,600 relay team. Thompson won the 400 in 56.7 seconds and the 200 in 24.6. He was joined by Connor Garrett, Stuart Baird and Curtis Rissberger as the relay team finished in 4:20.

Paul Ford was a four-time winner for AuSable Valley, capturing the 110 hurdles in 17.3, the 400 hurdles in 1:08.7, the triple jump with a 38-8 and the high jump at 6-0.

CHAMPLAIN - The Armstrong sisters swept the distance events Thursday, May 2 as the Lake Placid girls track and field team finished with a 66-66 tie against Northeastern Clinton in a dual meet.

Sophomore Nina Armstrong won the 1,500-meter race in 5:30.6 and the 3,000 in 12:01.5. Her younger sister Gabby Armstrong, an eighth-grader, won the 800 in 2:42.6 and was part of the winning 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams.

Rachael Ashley, Elisabeth Ashley and the Armstrong sisters made up the 3,200 relay team that finished in 10:48. Rachael Ashley was also part of the 400 relay that finished in 1:01.4.

Elisabeth Ashley won the 400 hurdles in 1:22.2 and took part in the 1,600 relay team of Jillian Goulette, Lauren Rossi and Armstrong that finished in 5:19.5.

Kendra Manning was a winner in the 400 with a time of 1:05.9.

On the boys' side, Corey Detwiler and Nzoni Thompson each won three events. Detwiler won the 800 in 2:41.9 and the triple jump with a jump of 29 feet, 3 1/2 inches. He was also part of the 3,200 relay team that won in 10:42.9.

Thompson won the 200 in 25.7 seconds and the long jump with a 17-1. He was also part of the 400 relay team that crossed the line in 53.7.
