LAKE PLACID - There's no snow on the ground yet, but it's time to think about snow. Snow-related activity that is. NYSEF's 29th annual gala fundraiser will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Turf & Field Club at the Lake Placid Horseshow Grounds on state Route 73.
NYSEF, or otherwise known as the New York Ski Education Foundation, which has a home base at the Whiteface Mountain Ski Area, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing professional guidance and support to athletes of all ages in alpine, freestyle and cross-country skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding, biathlon and nordic combined. NYSEF athletes represent the United States Ski and Snowboard Teams competing at Olympic, World, Jr. World and National Team levels, among them 2010 Olympic Bronze medalist Andrew Weibrecht.
"We are extremely excited about this year's event and celebrating NYSEF's 40 years of service to the sport of skiing in all disciplines," Jay Rand, NYSEF's executive director told the News. "The quality of the programs, staff and Olympic facilities have been proven throughout NYSEF's history, and most recently at the Vancouver Olympics where seven former NYSEF Athletes participated in a variety of events. Memorable and unprecedented victories occurred with Andrew Weibrecht's bronze medal in the alpine SG and Bill Demong's gold and silver nordic combined victories."`
Rand explained that this event will help support NYSEF's mission and those who are hoping to earn a spot in the 2014 Winter Olympics.
"Many of these same athletes are once again setting their sights toward the upcoming winter Olympics in Sochi Russia," Rand said. "In their wings are many up and coming future NYSEF and Olympic stars. The summer gala has been NYSEF's premier traditional fundraising events, which helps support athletes dreams and ambitions."
The fundraiser will include international cuisine, cocktails, music and a silent auction. The gala is open to ages 21 and up. Advance tickets may be purchased for $80 per person or $150/couple at www.nysef.org. Tickets will be available at the door.
