Sunbelt Senior Tour returns to Whiteface Club

August 25, 2013
Lake Placid News

LAKE PLACID - The third annual Adirondack Senior Open, part of the Sunbelt Senior Golf Tour, will be held August 26-30 at the Whiteface Club & Resort, which has quickly become one of the touring professionals favorite stops.

With the hospitality of the people in Lake Placid and the stern test of golf provided by the golf course, most of the professionals from 2012 will be back with quite a few new faces joining them.

The Sunbelt Senior Tour has been the training ground for Champions Tour players for almost 20 years. The developmental tour - for players 45 and older - has enabled some of the top professional golfers in the country to visit smaller communities where amateur golfers can play with them in the pro-am and socialize with these professionals at the event's many functions.

USA Luge has become the charitable beneficiary of all proceeds for this year's tournament.

"USA Luge is local to Lake Placid and with the storied past of Lake Placid hosting two Olympic Games, we cannot be more pleased to partner with USA Luge," said tournament director Tom Eubank.

"USA Luge is honored to be the beneficiary of the Sunbelt Senior Pro Golf Tour, a valuable event in the Lake Placid community," said the team's marketing director Gordy Sheer. "The competitive spirit of our athletes meshes perfectly with the pros and participants in the tournament."

There will also be some additions to this year's tournament, which will be open to the entire community for free. The junior clinic that has been held the last two years will continue. A trick shot show has been added prior to the clinic this year, presented by John Whitty, who has been performing for audiences across America for years and has graciously volunteered to offer his show free of charge to everyone.

In addition, pro-am participants will be entertained by Jim Doing, the tour's opera singing golf professional. Doing will perform three songs, including Andrea Bocelli's Conte Partido, at the draw party and the awards presentation.
