The Lake Placid Hall of Fame Committee recently announced its "Class of 2013" and a round applause to the newest members of the Olympic Village's highest place of recognition.
This year congratulations go to inductees Ed and Lisa Weibrecht and Naj Wikoff and the friends and families of inductees Wilmot "Monty" Purdy, James Quinn and Laura Viscome, who were inducted posthumously. These nominees will be inducted into the distinguished venue located in the Conference Center on Main Street, right next to the Olympic Center.
It is a noteworthy achievement to be named to any hall of fame - but having the honor of being recognized for one's contribution to an entire community is truly an one that is noteworthy and special. Each individual that has ever been named to the Lake Placid Hall of Fame has made a significant sports, cultural or civic contribution to the Olympic region. Their names are recognizable to just about everyone who is familiar with Lake Placid.
This latest group has two individuals who have direct links to the Lake Placid News - Naj Wikoff who writes a weekly column with photos and an occasional story and Laura Viscome whose name is synonymous with the column Odds and Ends and who was a fixture in the Lake Placid community covering events for the News. Both hold a special place in the LPN and its readers.
These new Hall of Famers will be honored at the 30th annual induction banquet being held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 in the Conference Center. Tickets are $32 and are now available at the Olympic Center box office. The deadline for dinner ticket purchase is Tuesday, Oct. 15, after which tickets will not be available.
Congratulations to the 2013 Lake Placid Hall of Fame inductees and their friends and families. All of the Hall of Famers are hereby thanked and praised for all they've done for the Olympic Village and Region.
