WILMINGTON - As real snowflakes drifted down from the sky, manmade ones started blowing on the slopes of Whiteface Mountain Ski Center today as artificial snowmaking began for the winter season.
Snowmaking is set to resume tonight and continue leading up to opening day, conditions permitting, on the Upper Valley, Lower Valley and Fox trails. The state Olympic Regional Development Authority, which runs Whiteface, has repeatedly announced it expects to open the mountain for the ski and snowboard season Nov. 29.
ORDA also runs the Lake Placid Olympic sports venues, Gore Mountain Ski Center in North Creek and Belleayre Mountain Ski Center in the Catskills.
The slopes of Whiteface Mountain Ski Center in Wilmington start to look whiter as snowmaking begins Friday.
