Alpine skier and Olympic hopeful Tommy Biesemeyer of Keene suffered a serious knee injury Friday during a downhill training run in Lake Louise, Alberta.

Biesemeyer ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament and sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

The injury occurred during the final downhill training run for the Lake Louise World Cup races last weekend. It was the first World Cup event of the season for downhill and super-G skiers and third overall for the U.S. alpine team.

The 24-year-old Biesemeyer is in his third World Cup season and had been hoping to compete in his first Olympics this February in Sochi. That now appears to be out of the question with the Games just two months away.

Biesemeyer's best event is the super-G.

Surgery is scheduled for later this week in Vail, Colo.

The U.S. Alpine Team, which also features Lake Placid native Andrew Weibrecht, will resume action this weekend with the Birds of Prey World Cup in Beaver Creek, Colo.
