LAKE PLACID - Seven Lake Placid restaurants/bars are sponsoring a social hour after work sessions at the Triangle Garden on Route 73 opposite the North Elba Show Grounds.
The Garden Club of Lake Placid organizes these spring, summer and fall events starting with this Wednesday at 4 p.m. with another session May 28 at the same time.
To kick off the program, Delta Blue at Northwoods Inn will host workers after 5 p.m. May 7 for refreshments. Community volunteers are to report first to the Triangle Garden at 4 p.m. for an hour of work, rain, shine or snow.

Spring clean-up, removing dead material, pruning and weeding will be a priority. Volunteers are asked to bring appropriate garden tools, gloves, clippers/shears, small rakes and a container for weeds. Gardening implements will be shared for those without them. Although organized by Garden Club, help from any resident or visitor, regardless of age or gender, is welcome and much appreciated.
Daffodils spring up as the first evidence of bright yellow on each mound followed by the intense blue of lupines in June set off by daisies. A variety of summer plants soon burst forth in July and August before colorful autumn mums mix with white and orange pumpkins.
"This garden creates a first impression and initial welcome to Lake Placid for us and our guests," said Triangle Garden chair Linda Friedlander. "We want people to know we appreciate and care about our surroundings. We also have fun, especially afterward at our social hour. Our monthly sponsors provide us with cool drinks and snacks, an excellent incentive to work."
Subsequent hosts for May through October are: Lake Placid Pub & Brewery, May 28; Liquids and Solids, June 11; The Cottage, July 9; Interlaken Lodge, Aug. 13; Pan Dolce, Sept. 24; and Big Mt. Deli & Creperie, Oct. 22.
