PLATTSBURGH - After playing singles during the regular season, Lake Placid's Victoria O'Leary and Brenna Garrett teamed up to make a memorable and successful run in the Section VII doubles tournament held over the weekend.

On Sunday, the two Blue Bombers won twice to claim the sectional title in girls doubles. As the third-seed, O'Leary and Garrett took down the top-seeded team of Taylor Higgins and Anna Mitchell in a semifinal matchup, and then toppled Andrea Mossey and Aryan Kellison of Northeastern Clinton in the final.

O'Leary and Garrett won both their matches in straight sets. They defeated Higgins and Mitchell 6-4, 6-1, and followed with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) win over Mossey and Kellison in the final. They also knocked off Beekmantown's Tori and Sierra Barrett 10-3 on Saturday to move on.

A number of Blue Bombers competed in the championships on Saturday, but didn't advance to Sunday's final rounds.

Lake Placid's doubles team of Sophie Morelli and Jasmine Phillip fell in the first round, dropping a 10-1 decision to Higgins and Mitchell. In boys doubles, Sawyer Chase and Raymond Zhang lost their first-round matchup 10-3 to Northern Adirondack's Scott Kellett and Jared Brunelle.

In girls singles, Lake Placid seniors Kayla Hudson and Liza Marinis each won their opening matches before falling in the second round. Hudson defeated Peru's Emily Sorrel 10-2 and then dropped her second contest 10-1 to top-seeded Kelsey Senecal of Plattsburgh, who wound up falling in a three-set marathon to eventual champion Abbie Miller of NCCS in Sunday's final.

Marinis won her first match 11-9 over Cydney Bond of Peru, and then lost to Peru's Margaret Mitchell 10-1.

Playing on the boys side, junior Georgia O'Leary of Lake Placid won once before falling in the third round. She started the championships with a bye, and then topped Plattsburgh's Josh Ferris 10-1. She was then defeated 10-1 by Peru's Johnny McAuliffe.

Colin Briggs also competed in singles for the Lake Placid boys. He fell in the opening round Saturday 10-4 to Anthony Piche of NCCS.
