LAKE PLACID - The state Department of Transportation began a $1.1 million paving project on state Route 73 Tuesday, June 10.

The work will be done over an 8-mile stretch of the road between the Olympic ski jumps and the Cascade lakes, according to DOT Region 1 spokesman Bryan Viggiani.

The roads will be open to one-way-at-a-time traffic with flaggers in place from 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A roller from Brunell Asphalt is parked on the shoulder of state Route 73 on Wednesday.

The main portion of the work will be done on a 5.7-mile stretch of the road and two shorter sections will also be worked on.

"All three of those sections will be done in three weeks," Viggiani said.
