To the editor:
On behalf of Clarkson University community - and especially on behalf of our students, faculty and staff in the Department of Physical Therapy - I want to thank the first responders and other members of the greater Lake Placid community for their efforts following the tragic plane crash on July 19, in which two of our students and a Clarkson parent lost their lives.
The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department, Lake Placid village police, Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service, Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Department of Environmental Conservation, Lake Placid Airport staff, New York State Police and all other emergency personnel are to be commended for their skilled response and compassionate care in the aftermath. We also thank the members of the Lake Placid community and Snowslip Farm, who reached out to us to see if they could offer any assistance in the hours and days that have followed.
Kathleen Kafka and Reed Phillips had both came to Clarkson to pursue an education and career opportunities in physical therapy. In their short year here, they both had embraced being a part of the North Country community and enjoyed the unmatched access to world-class recreation and the natural environment.
The Clarkson community will remember them fondly and is proud to be a member of the greater North Country community that is home to such a skilled and caring group of citizens.
Again, on behalf of all of our students, faculty and staff, thank you.
President, Clarkson University
