LAKE PLACID - NBC will celebrate Hockey Weekend in America here next Sunday, Feb. 22.

Attendees can skate for free while the network broadcasts from the Olympic Speed Skating Oval on Main Street from noon to 9 p.m. and are invited to support their favorite NHL teams by bringing a poster or sign or by wearing that team's uniform. Skate rentals are not free.

NBC's Hockey Weekend in America telecast will feature NHL games on NBC, including Washington at Philadelphia and Boston at Chicago. The late game on NBC Sports Network will feature Dallas at Minnesota. During each game's broadcast, the network will air all of its pregame shows, intermissions and game interviews from in front of the oval with studio hosts Liam McHugh, Mike Milbury and NHL star Jeremy Roenick.

On Saturday, Feb. 21, the state Olympic Regional Development Authority and Lake Placid Youth Athletic Association welcome kids to the oval at 2:30 p.m. to "Try Hockey for Free."

Open to boys and girls ages four to nine, the "Try Hockey for Free" clinic allows children to experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basics of the sport in a safe environment. To register, visit www.tryhockeyforfree.com or call ORDA's Mary-Elizabeth Wightman at 518-302-5395.
