Saranac Lake’s Radio Shack isn’t closing

February 27, 2015

SARANAC LAKE - The Tri-Lakes area's only Radio Shack will remain open.

Tesaira Rodrigue, an associate of the Lake Flower Avenue electronics store, told the Adirondack Daily Enterprise Thursday, Feb. 26, that there's been some confusion among its customers about whether or not the local store is closing since earlier this month when the company filed bankruptcy and announced plans to close more than 1,700 stores around the country. She said some regional news media incorrectly reported that the Saranac Lake store would close.

"They didn't get their information quite right," she said. "We're one of the ones they're keeping open."

The Plattsburgh Press-Republican newspaper and WSLP radio in Lake Placid reported that the Saranac Lake store was among those in the North Country that would close.

Rodrigue said business is good at the Saranac Lake store. She thinks that's why it's not on the closure list.

"We're the only store in this area, and we're the only place in the area where you can get electronics," she said. "A lot of people come here every day."

Radio Shack stores are being closed in three waves, according to court documents published by the company.

Among those affected in the North Country, a Radio Shack site at the Champlain Centre mall in Plattsburgh is on the initial list of stores that were scheduled to be closed by Feb. 17. Another Radio Shack location in Plattsburgh, at Consumer Square, along with sites in Massena and Potsdam, are in the second wave of stores that will close on Saturday. The Malone Radio Shack is in the third round of closures, set to take effect March 31.
