This photo — circa 1920-1930 — helps celebrate the Lake Placid Olympic Museum’s new exhibit, “Lake Placid: A Ski Jumping History at Intervales.” It is hard to imagine Lake Placid without thinking of skiing. The community’s ski history began more than a century ago, when the Lake Placid Club remained open for its first winter in 1904-1905. Club leaders began to foster an enthusiasm for a variety of winter sports among its members, including skiing. In those early years, skiing meant cross-country touring and ski jumping. When the Club began constructing ski jump hills, no one could have pictured the world of ski jumping Lake Placid knows today. The Lake Placid Olympic Museum invites the public to explore the history of Intervales in their latest exhibit. Please visit the Lake Placid Olympic Museum located in the Olympic Center on Main Street. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
