LAKE PLACID - The Adirondack Chill 16-and-under travel softball team recently completed its 2017 season after going 1-2-1 at the Vermont Rockets Invitational Tournament.

The Chill opened the tournament against Vermont Xplosion and took an early lead when Marissa Gibbs walked and eventually scored on a passed ball in the first. Gabby Dumas extended the lead in the second with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

The Xplosion pitcher shut down the Chill offense after that and her offense scored two in the third, four in the fourth and added two more in the sixth to seal the 8-2 victory.

Danielle Dubay doubled to chip in for the Chill.

Next up for the Chill was the host and eventual tournament champion Vermont Rockets. The Chill combined timely hitting and aggressive base running with a solid defense to win the game 4-3.

The Chill opened the scoring in the second. Hannah Rondeau walked and advanced to second on a Brooke Myers sacrifice bunt. Dubay then singled to put runners at first and third, and Emily Peryea delivered an RBI single to right field.

With runners still on first and third, the Chill executed a double delayed steal that scored Dubay from third.

In the third, Adirondack manufactured another run when Kya McComb struck out but reached on an error by the catcher on a dropped third strike. She moved to second on a Gibbs ground out and scored on an RBI single by Elisa Rodriguez.

Closing out the scoring for the Chill was Rodriguez in the fifth when she walked, moved to third on consecutive wild pitches and scored on a Rondeau ground out. Myers went the distance pitching, scattering 12 hits, while striking out four and walking two.

The Chill took another early lead in their third game playing against the Vermont Cougars, a game that was delayed by two hours by rain. McComb led off the game with a single and eventually scored on a Rodriguez base hit. Rodriguez scored on a passed ball.

The Cougars took the lead at 4-2 after plating four runs in the third, but the Chill bounced right back with four of their own in the fourth inning. Dubay walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Peryea singled and Sydney Hunter reached on errors, then Dumas ripped a two-RBI triple to the fence. She scored on a base hit by McComb to make the score 6-4.

The Cougars scored one in the fourth and another in the fifth to tie the game at 6-6. That was how it would end after the time limit ran out.

Championship play on Sunday saw the Chill jump out to an early 4-0 lead in a rematch against the Xplosion. Rondeau singled, Peryea was hit by a pitch, Myers singled, Dubay had an RBI single, Hunter had an RBI ground out, Dumas had an RBI sacrifice fly and McComb singled in a run. The Xplosion plated six runs in the fourth to take the lead for good and eventually won 8-6.

The Adirondack Chill will hold tryouts for their 2018 teams on Sunday, Aug. 20 and Sunday, Aug. 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the James Kordziel Athletic Complex at 5514 Cascade Road in Lake Placid.
