LAKE PLACID - Two seniors playing their final regular season game at home made the winning connection on Thursday, as Tony Matos and Jarell Paul hooked up on the only goal of the match to lead the Lake Placid boys soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Willsboro.

Paul netted the only goal just 4 minutes, 36 into the match, and from there, the Blue Bombers held off the Warriors in what unfolded as an evenly-played contest. On the goal, Matos worked his way into the box and fed Paul, who put a shot past Willsboro goalkeeper Joseph King.

"We managed to scrape through our senior night," said Lake Placid coach Stuart Hemsley. "We scored early, and for the remaining 76 minutes or so, it wasn't pretty. Willsboro always comes here and plays tough."

With the win, Lake Placid improved to 3-3 in Northern Soccer League Division II play and also claimed a regular-season sweep of the Warriors. Lake Placid held a 20-15 edge in shots in the match. Junior Jacob Novick made 15 saves in goal for the Blue Bombers and King had 16 stops for the Warriors.

Hemsley said he was able to get all eight of his seniors in the match.

The Blue Bombers next play Friday, Oct. 6 at Elizabethtown-Lewis-Westport.
