LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid girls basketball team started out on fire Thursday and was never challenged on the way to notching a 47-16 victory at home in Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference play.

The Blue Bombers raced out to a 17-1 edge in the first quarter in a game that saw head coach Jeff Potter substitute his players in waves. In addition to the regular contingent of varsity players, the Blue Bombers were able to bring up a handful of underclassmen from the junior varsity team for the game.

Senior Graci Daby scored a game-high 16 points to lead Lake Placid, and teammate Lindsey Rath chipped in 10 points. Not normally known as a strong group when it comes to accuracy from the floor, the Blue Bombers hit 6-of-7 field goal attempts to start the game while putting the Eagles in a big hole early.

"I liked the way we played defense, and I like how we converted steals by making our layups," Potter said. "For us, I keep telling the kids 'Make the game easy. Make the easy shots.' Easy put-backs, easy layups - you look back at the end of the night and that's the difference in the game a lot of the time. The difference in the game is five feet from the hoops."

The Blue Bombers improved to 3-2 in MVAC action and 4-4 overall.

Eight of the nine players who took the floor for Lake Placid recorded points. Camille Craig finished as the team's third leading scorer with nine points. Natalie Pombrio paced the Eagles with nine points.

"I thought we did a good job rebounding and limiting their second shots," Potter said. "When I can, I'll bring some JV kids up. Tonight I had two freshman, Sam Jubin and Natalie Tavares. I'm trying to juggle that every night when there isn't a JV game. It's a good corp of six or seven from that JV squad, and in this league, they can play. They're contributing, and it's awesome."

Lake Placid's next game will be on the road Tuesday against Keene, starting at 6:30 p.m.
