ESWG thanks all

To the editor:

On behalf of the Empire State Winter Games participants, families and staff, we offer a heartfelt "thank you" to everyone involved with this year's event.

This year's ESWGs focused on creating a fun event that is attractive to family members and spectators, as well as athletes so that more people come, stay and return to the region and the event every year.

In the concerted effort to accomplish that objective, the stakeholders of the events, including the nine towns and villages, 14 venues, volunteers, venue managers, venue staff, and all of the sponsors put forth an amazing effort and created a new level of excitement and fun for everyone who came to the region for the games.

At first glance, the qualitative feedback suggests that the response was overwhelmingly positive.

The Village, Torch Relay and enhanced Opening Ceremony added a rich experience for many who would not otherwise have had a chance to "participate." They would not have been possible if it weren't for the numerous people and sponsors, and especially the extraordinary effort and generosity of the following entities:

-ORDA: Which continues to strengthen its ability to create amazing events and hospitality for recreational athletes as well as world-class athletes.

-ROOST: Which oversees the non-profit entity that owns the event, made it a region-wide event over the last eight years and continues to help promote and execute the event every year.

-Towns and villages of the region: Which host various events and who contribute financial and resource support to create events, manage traffic, promote the sports and offer great hospitality to everyone involved.

-Gov. Andrew Cuomo: Who contributed directly to the event this year in an effort to grow the awareness for the region as well as the support the importance of inspiring an entire state to "come out to play."

-Community Bank: Which is the title sponsor for the Empire State Winter Games and which has committed to positively affecting an entire regional community as well as inspire an entire generation to participate in activities such as these.

-Hotels, restaurants and other businesses: Which contributed food, sponsorship dollars, hospitality, the right to use their property, lumber, fireworks, and more to help create a winter experience unlike any other in the region.

-Experience Outdoors: Which donated much of their employees' time and resources to create an amazing zip-line experience that will help all of our guests forever remember the Northern Adirondack experience.

There are too many people and entities to list here, but those contributions are humbling, inspiring and greatly appreciated by the entire ESWG team and the nonprofit arm of ROOST that owns the games.

We know, too, that there is room for improvement and we've already begun reviewing what went well and what needs improvement to make it a rewarding experience for everyone.
