Small business owners, nonprofit groups and people interested in starting a business are invited to attend a workshop on writing press releases.

The workshop, "Press Release Essentials: Get Media Coverage on a Shoestring Budget," will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 at the Lake Placid Beach House on Parkside Drive.

The presenter is Lake Placid News Editor Andy Flynn, who has more than 25 years of journalism and public relations experience.

The workshop is open to small businesses, nonprofit organizations and people interested in starting a business who live in the village of Lake Placid or towns of Keene, Jay and Wilmington. The cost is free, and registration is required.

As the hometown newspaper for the Olympic Region, the Lake Placid News is offering this workshop for free as a public service.

When workshop participants leave, they will have the basic knowledge of how to write and distribute effective press releases. Plus, they will be given a PR Toolkit that includes a press release template, press release examples, a workshop outline and specifications for sending press releases and photos to the Lake Placid News and its sister newspaper, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise in Saranac Lake.
