Bombers baseball moves into semifinals

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid baseball team combined a strong pitching performance with a big day at the plate Friday, May 18 in an 11-2 victory over Johnsburg in the quarterfinal round of the Section VII, Class D tournament.

With the win, the Blue Bombers advanced to the semifinals where they will face Bolton/Schroon Lake on Tuesday at the North Elba athletic fields in Lake Placid. Bolton/Schroon Lake beat Keene 8-4 on Friday. Crown Point will travel to top-seeded Moriah on Tuesday in the other semifinal.

Jesse Izzo struck out 14 batters and allowed two hits, two earned runs and four walks to earn the victory on the mound for Lake Placid. He was relieved in the seventh inning by Scott Sharlow, who struck out the side to end the game.

Izzo helped his own cause from the batter's box with two singles and a run scored. Matt Brandes did his part with two singles, a double and two runs scored, while Colin Hayes went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored.

Sharlow, Duncan Segger, Jake Coursen and Noah Marshall chipped in singles for the Blue Bombers.

Ryan Morris accounted for two of Johnsburg's three hits.
