PLATTSBURGH - Lake Placid pitchers Jesse Izzo and Jake Coursen combined to pitch a gem Friday to lead the Blue Bombers to a 2-1 victory over Crown Point in the championship game of the Section VII, Class D tournament at SUNY Plattsburgh's Chip Cummings Field.

Izzo started on the mound, allowing just three hits, one earned run and one walk while striking out six batters. Coursen entered in the top of the sixth and struck out two, while yielding one hit and one walk to pick up the save.

The Lake Placid offense did just enough to secure the win, scoring both its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tyler Hinkley was the first Blue Bomber to cross the plate, followed by Izzo. Colin Hayes was credited with both RBIs, one of his two hits on the day.

Scott Sharlow went 2-for-3, Matt Brandes was 1-for-3 and Duncan Segger was credited with a stolen base. Lake Placid had five hits total for the game.

Hunter Pertak took the loss for Crown Point, despite a five-strikeout performance that included four walks and no extra base hits over five innings of work. Noah Spaulding took the mound in the bottom of the sixth inning and struck out the side.

Pertak, Zach Spaulding, Andrew DuShane and Tristan Carey each registered singles for the Paners.

Crown Point scored its only run in the third inning.

It was Lake Placid's fourth sectional title in the last six years. The Blue Bombers are 9-8 overall this season.

With the victory, the Blue Bombers earned a spot in the NYSPHSAA sub-regional round where they will take on the Section X, Class D winner Saturday, June 2 on the same field in Plattsburgh. Madrid-Waddington (9-1) will face Heuvelton on Tuesday in the Section X championship game at St. Lawrence University in Canton.
