Allen R. Gilmore

Allen R. Gilmore died on Aug. 19, 2018, in Albuquerque, New Mexico after a difficult struggle with cancer.

He moved to Albuquerque in 2008.

Allen was born in Baltimore, Maryland on Jan. 3, 1937. He graduated from Baltimore City College High School in 1955 and from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) in 1959. He obtained an M. Div. from Garett-Evangelical Seminary in 1962, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Northwestern University in 1965 and 1967, respectively.

He served as assistant pastor at Duke University in 1962-63. In 1967, Allen took a position at the Pastoral Counseling and Consultation Center in greater Washington, D.C., eventually becoming the executive director.

In 1988, he and his wife, Eileen, moved to Keene.

He was an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. Allen was active in the Keene Valley Congregational Church, 1988-2006, and the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Albuquerque, 2008-2018.

Allen was politically active from age 14 and was involved in the 1960s civil rights movement.

He played/coached soccer and baseball throughout his life. His last paying job was as a baseball coach at the Keene Central School.

Allen was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 48 years, Eileen.

He is survived by sons Mark, of Albuquerque, and Jonathan of Rutland, Vermont.

Memorials may be sent to the Full Life Foundation at La Vida Llena, Albuquerque, or the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Albuquerque.
