Police: Couple ripped off horse riding customer

SARANAC LAKE - State police have released further information on charges relating to local ranch owners.

Travis Devalinger, 45, of Lake Clear, and Natalia Fiedler, 36, of Lake Placid, also known as Natalia Devalinger, allegedly took $2,880 from an individual to provide horse riding services in July 2018 at the ranch they own known as ADK Wild Horse Camp.

According to state police, after receiving payment, Devalinger and Fiedler told the individual that they were canceling their services, though the individual was not reimbursed.

Devalinger was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a felony, conspiracy in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor, and scheme to defraud in the first degree, a felony. He was arraigned at the Harrietstown Town Court and released on his own recognizance with electronic bracelet monitoring, to appear again on Nov. 3.

Fiedler was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony. She was released on an appearance ticket to appear in Harrietstown Court on Oct. 1.

Police said the ranch that Devalinger and Fiedler own has operated under many names, including Ausable Equine Center, Saddleback Ranch, XTC Ranch, High Peaks Resources, High Peaks Equine Resources LLC, Adirondack Equine Center, Emerald Springs Ranch, The Ranch Camp, Adirondack Horse Rescue, Lake Placid Equestrian Academy, Wild Horse Camp, Wild Horse Ranch Camp and ADK Wild Horse Camp.

Eight horses were seized from the ranch on Dec. 7, 2017, and Devalinger was charged with eight counts of animal cruelty. He accepted an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal with respect to the charges, and was required to pay $11,000 to the state for care of the animals.
