Recognizing young leaders

November 23, 2018
Editorial , Lake Placid News

Do you know anyone under 30 years of age who shows initiative in serving others in one of our local communities?

You might know someone right off the bat who has been taking up the charge by volunteering, leading a group or doing a valuable service at school, church, civic organization, business or youth organization. Some are more visible, winning awards and public recognition of accomplishments, but others might have single-handedly and quietly done a project that had a positive effect on the community.

We invite you to nominate someone for our new "20 Under Thirty" awards.

The criteria are leadership (50 percent), achievements (25 percent) and other involvement (25 percent). It is simple to do for you and possibly life changing for the young person who is acknowledged.

The 20 who are chosen will be profiled in the Lake Placid News and Adirondack Daily Enterprise. In March, we and their family and friends will honor them at a dinner, where they will be acknowledged and given awards.

We ask you to look for the nomination form in the News or Enterprise, in print and online. Maybe after eating your Thanksgiving dinner, sit down, fill out your nomination form, and send it to us. Don't wait until the deadline of Friday, Jan. 4 and chance missing out on a worthy young person being recognized.

If you are a community official, teacher, clergy member, family, friend, neighbor or in a civic organization or business, we ask you to nominate that special person, whether they are 9 years old or 29. Your encouragement will impress that person that you have faith in them to become a real leader.

Email your completed nomination form to, or mail it to 20 Under Thirty, Adirondack Daily Enterprise, P.O. Box 318, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. You may also drop it off at 54 Broadway, Saranac Lake, or the Lake Placid News, 6179 Sentinel Road, Lake Placid.
