LAKE PLACID - At the Tuesday, Dec. 4 Lake Placid Central School District Board of Education meeting, the board announced that Tammy Casey will fill the role of high school dean of students starting Jan. 1 until the end of this school year.

Ever since former Principal Dana Wood became the school system's business manager this past summer, the district has been searching for a new full-time principal. Ernie Witkowski, who's been an interim administrator for the district multiple times, stepped out of retirement to be the interim principal.

Casey, a math teacher who's been with the district since 2001, will replace Witkowski and fill the slightly different role of dean of students. Deans focus more on day-to-day interactions among staff and students while principals focus on academics as a whole. Casey is currently completing her administrative internship through the Leadership Academy at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

"Ms. Casey is an outstanding professional," district Superintendent Roger Catania said in a press release. "She will bring to this position her intense commitment to the Lake Placid Central School District, her instructional expertise, and support for staff and students. Having Ms. Casey in this leadership position provides us with stability and consistency, while allowing us to continue to make progress on curriculum and instruction, and helping to promote a more positive school climate."

Casey will work closely with Lake Placid Middle School Principal Theresa Lindsay, who will serve as the head administrator of the middle-high school building.

In the same press release, Board of Education President Rick Preston said, "I believe that Theresa Lindsay and Tammy Casey will be a terrific leadership team ready to navigate Lake Placid Middle and High School through the remaining months of the school year."
