Essex and Franklin counties ratify NCCC labor contract, raises

SARANAC LAKE - One of North Country Community College's employee unions has secured raises for its members.

A contract between the NCCC, its board of trustees and the NCCC Association of Professionals has been ratified by the Essex Board of Supervisors and the Franklin County Legislature. It will allow for the school's employees who are in the union to get further raises the next two years.

The NCCC Association of Professionals includes both faculty and non-faculty staff.

The contract will yield an average 2.83% annually, salary increase for the union's members, according to NCCC Communications Director Chris Knight.

The two-year contract from Sept. 1, 2019, to Aug. 31, 2021, will see an increase of .5% for all of the 60 members in the union for the first year and then a 1% increase for the second year. Both years, the 60 members will each receive a $1,000 stipend.

The prior contract lasted for four years and offered a 0.5% increase and a $1,000 stipend each year for its employees.

The college's other union, the Civil Service Employees Association has settled a contract with the college. Its awaiting approval from Essex and Franklin counties.
