Mirror Lake walker sees a lot of beauty along the way

Lake Placid News

To the editor:

Whew! Last weekend was exciting with Ironman. The day of the race, I took a walk around the lake. Like so many other residents, I realized how lucky we are to live here. We have so much beauty at our fingertips.

Mirror Lake Inn sets a high standard if one starts from there. The size and mix of floral colors, placement and proliferation of plants makes one suspect there are steroids in the soil!

Rounding the corner of Mirror Lake Drive and Harbor Lane, look up to your left at the stunning plantings of the Harbor Condo's corner unit and the neighbors to the left. Just a few yards farther, on the right of the sidewalk, i.e. lake side #190, starts a .2 mile distance of gardens ending with #260, Sunburst written on a large stone at end of driveway. The Wilson property has been improved by new, large barrels of flowers with cedar trees and trolley in the background. The next few properties on the lake side have planted colorful and diverse ground gardens which catch the eye.

What is remarkable about the above owners is that they cannot even see this magnificence from their homes. Unselfishly, they have improved the experience for all of us walkers/riders.

You owners cannot know how many of us locals and visitors admire what you've done. We do appreciate it and thank you for your effort, expense and maintenance.

For a small Olympic venue, we overflow with music, art, culture, natural beauty and created beauty.

Most sincerely,

Linda Friedlander

Lake Placid

P.S. Thank you to the crews that repaired, painted and fixed the fountain at the Kate Smith Memorial Garden opposite the post office. Now the fountain rivals the adjoining lovely gardens. With your green paint and flower boxes, the NBT parking lot wall is also no longer an eyesore.
