Ukraine: Russia's convoy a set-up for provocation

August 22, 2014
Associated Press

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine's prime minister says Russia has sent a large aid convoy into war-torn eastern Ukraine to arrange a provocation.

Speaking in a live interview on national television, Arseniy Yastenyuk said Russia's plan in sending two hundred half-empty trucks into Ukraine was not to deliver aid to the hard-hit city of Luhansk. He said it was to cause an international incident by attacking the convoy itself, thus arranging a "provocation."

Asked whether he viewed the convoy's departure earlier Friday as an invasion, Yatsenyuk said Russia's invasion of Ukraine began back in March when it annexed Crimea and has been going on ever since.
