Officials: Piece of jet fell onto Long Island yard

STEWART MANOR, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities are trying to figure out how if a metal part from a jet airliner fell out of the sky and landed in a Long Island yard.

Newsday ( ) says 52-year-old Lee Ackerman found the foot-long piece of sheet metal while walking his dog in Stewart Manor Tuesday afternoon.

The square part appears to have come off an Airbus A380 jumbo jet.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
