The show will continue through Sunday, July 1, and it will be followed by the I Love New York Horse Show on July 3-8.

Many of the special events and annual traditions that riders, owners and spectators look forward to each summer will continue this year.

For almost five decades, the Lake Placid Horse Shows have hosted the nation’s top horses and riders at the North Elba Show Grounds. The 2018 shows will offer more than 100 classes of competition each week for riders at all levels, from children on ponies to grand prix competitors and Olympic medalists. Each show is USEF ‘AA’ rated for hunters and 6* rated for Jumpers and this year’s shows offer over $535,000 in prize money and awards.

Action begins at 8 a.m. each show day with classes running simultaneously in four separate rings until about 5 p.m. Spectators can come for an hour or a whole day and see competition ranging from ponies ridden by tomorrow’s champions to members of the U.S. Equestrian Team atop some of the world’s best horses.

The Lake Placid Horse Show continues Friday, June 29, will feature the $1,500 Pepsi Beverages Co. 1.35m jumper class; $5,000 Dartbrook Rustic Goods 1.40m jumper class at 8 a.m. followed by the $30,000 Voltaire Design Jumper Classic at 3 p.m. in the Grand Prix Field. There are various Adult Amateur Jumper and Hunter along with Pony classes in other rings throughout the day.

Competition continues on Saturday, June 30, with the $20,000 CMJ Sport Horse 1.40 Open Jumper Stake I, followed by the $7,500 High Peaks Resort Low Junior Jumper Classic, $7,500 Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort Low Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic and $5,000 J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Adult Amateur Jumper Classic in the Grand Prix Field. THIS National Children’s Medal, USHJA National Hunter Derby presented by Beacon Hill Horse Transportation along with various Hunter & Jumper Classes are held in the other rings throughout the day.

Sunday, July 1, concludes week one of the Lake Placid Horse Shows. The day begins with $5,000 The Wild Center Children’s Jumper Classic, followed by the $10,000 Mirror Lake Inn Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic. The Juliam Farm Lead Line Class begins at 1 p.m. and is open to children who have not yet reached their 7th birthday. The C.M. Hadfield’s Parade of Champions will start at 1:30 p.m., followed by the $75,000 Prevost Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC and sponsored by Bainbridge Farm at 2 p.m.

Beginning at 8 a.m., the main hunter ring will feature the Morrissey Management Group North American League (NAL) Adult Amateur Hunter Classic -rounds 1 and 2; and round 1 of the Morrissey Management Group (NAL) Children’s Hunter Classic (14 & under and ages 15-17) and round 2 of the Morrissey Management Group (NAL) Children’s Hunter Classic.

I Love New York Horse Show

After an off day on Monday, the I Love New York Horse Show begins on Tuesday, July 3 and features the $1,500 Pepsi Beverages Co. 1.35m Jumper Class in the Grand Prix Field. Schooling Jumper and Performance Working Hunter will take place in other rings throughout the day.

Wednesday, July 4, includes the Platinum Performance Show Jumping Talent Search 2*; $1,200 NBC 5 1.30m Jumper Class; Stake followed by the $5,000 Lake Placid CVB 1.40m Open Jumper and WIHS Equitation Hunter and Jumper Phase. Various hunter and jumper classes will take place in other rings throughout the day.

On Thursday, July 5, the $5,000 Hollow Brook Wealth Management 1.40m jumper class will held in the Grand Prix Field followed by the $30,000 FarmVet Open Jumper Classic. The Dover USEF Hunter Seat Medal; ASPCA/NHSAA Maclay as well as various Hunter & Jumper Classes will take place in other rings throughout the day.

The $1,500 Milagro Tequila 1.35m jumper class and the $20,000 Deeridge Farms 1.40 Open Jumper Stake will be held in the Grand Prix Ring on Friday, July 6.

Friday also features the 24th annual Horse Club Junior Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., all local 4-H groups, pony clubs and riding clubs are invited to participate in a fun-filled day at the horse shows. The day includes activities such as a stable tour, course walk, farrier visit, and a question-and-answer period. There will also be a raffle, giveaways, and an autograph session with a Grand Prix rider. This event is a long-standing tradition of the Lake Placid Horse Shows giving back to the local community and a great way for local horse lovers to get a behind-the-scenes look at a premier hunter and 6* rated jumper show. The cost is $5 per participant and it is open to the first 100 people on a first-come first-serve basis. Various Hunter & Jumper Classes are held in the other rings throughout the day.

Saturday, July 7, features the $10,000 Crowne Plaza Resort & Golf Club Lake Placid Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic in the Grand Prix Ring. At noon, the horse show’s 25th annual Doggie Costume Contest sponsored by Lake Placid Lodge will be held near the Grand Prix Field. It is open to all leashed dogs, free of charge. All canine contestants get to take home their own “doggie bag” filled with special doggie treats! At 1:30 p.m., the Clothes Horse Parade of Champions will be held in the Grand Prix Ring followed by the $100,000 Great American Insurance Group Grand Prix presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC and sponsored by Bainbridge Farm. The $5,000 The Wild Center Children’s Jumper Classic is held in the E.R. Mische Jumper Ring.

Sunday, July 8, features the Taylor Rental & New Holland Low Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic and the $5,000 J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Adult Jumper Classic in the Grand Prix Field. The Main Hunter Ring and Kovacs-Williams Ring include the Kathy Scholl Equitation Championship presented by Katy Levy & Family and the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby presented by Eastern Hay & Purina Animal Nutrition and the Pony Hunter Classic.

Admission to the horse shows is $2 on weekdays and $5 on weekends. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free.
