WILMINGTON — Darin Forbes resigned from the deputy supervisor role for the town of Wilmington last week, citing changes to his personal life, conflicts on the board and the town supervisor’s “inability to separate personal feelings from town politics,” but Forbes will remain on the town board as a regular member.

Forbes submitted his letter of resignation on July 11. Town Supervisor Roy Holzer has since appointed board member Tina Terry Preston to fill the deputy supervisor job. She was sworn in on Tuesday, July 18.

“I have personal things going on in my life, and I didn’t have time to manage everything,” Forbes said Wednesday, July 19. “I wanted to step down and not have all the responsibility of the deputy supervisor while the supervisor is away.”

Forbes reiterated that he’s still on the town board; he’ll just now be a regular voting member.

Asked what he was referring to in his resignation letter when he wrote that he felt Holzer had an “inability to separate personal feelings from town politics,” Forbes said “he brought up something in my personal life at a (town board meeting), but I don’t want to get into it.”

This comment from Holzer was during an executive session, Holzer said. Asked what he said, Holzer declined to speak about it because it was in an executive session.

“I don’t have any problem with him resigning as my deputy,” Holzer said. “I wish him well.”

Starting at $1.44/week.
