LAKE PLACID — Those wanting to see the Ironman Lake Placid triathlon — either in person or virtually — have options to watch portions of the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run on Sunday.

Free live coverage of the event will be broadcast across multiple platforms for viewers around the world including proseries.ironman.com, Outside TV, YouTube, DAZN and L’Equipe in France.

People who want to stream the professional coverage on their computer or mobile device can log onto the Ironman YouTube page at www.youtube.com/@ironmantriathlon.

The pro men begin their race at 6:18 a.m., followed by the pro women at 6:22 (these are updated times). The age-group rolling start at Mirror Lake begins at 6:30 a.m.

People who want to track an athlete virtually can download the Ironman Tracker App on their smartphones. The app will ask smartphone users to make sure they say “allow” to enable push notifications for real-time tracking and event messages. Notifications can be turned off later if desired.

Shuttle bus, parking

Those who want to see the action in person can park in one of three spectator parking lots, and a shuttle bus — running between 4:30 a.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday — will transport them between the parking lot and a drop-off spot on Cummings Road between the Olympic Center and the Olympic Speedskating Oval. The drop-off spot is a short distance from the finish line at the Oval — about one-quarter mile from Main Street.

The parking lots are located at the following:

The course

The swim portion is held on Mirror Lake, starting and ending at the municipal beach on Parkside Drive. There is no parking on that street during the race. Spectators can watch the action — two 1.2-mile laps — from in front of the Beach House or along Mirror Lake Drive.

The transition area is located at the Olympic Speedskating Oval. There, athletes will put on their road gear and head onto the bike course, two 56-mile laps: Main Street to Route 73, out and back at Bobsled Run Lane at Mount Van Hoevenberg, Route 73 to Keene, Route 9N to Jay, John Fountain Road (aka Mill Hill Road) to Stickney Bridge Road, Route 9N back to Jay, Route 86 to Bilhuber Road and Haselton Road before returning to Route 86, Route 86 to Lake Placid, Northwood Road to Mirror Lake Drive, Parkside Drive, Main Street, Cummings Road, behind the high school and out for the second lap.

Once back at the Oval, athletes will change into running gear and begin their full marathon, two 13.1-mile laps: Main Street to Route 73, out and back on River Road, Route 73 to Route 86, Route 86 to Northwood Road and turn around), Main Street to Mirror Lake Drive, turn around at Beech Hill Road, and back to Main Street for a second lap.

At the end of the second lap, on Main Street, athletes finish the Ironman race at the Oval in front of the high school where the announcer will proclaim, “You are an Ironman!”

Ironman community liaison

Ironman Lake Placid organizers have, once again, established a community liaison to assist businesses and community members with questions related to race training and travel throughout the region, along with addressing specific race-day issues.

The community liaison is the primary point of contact regarding road closures, traffic delays and other inquiries or concerns. This position is expected to work closely with race officials and other local agencies to quickly mitigate any issues that arise.

Residents and community members are encouraged to reach out to the Ironman community liaison for assistance before and during the race via email at IMLakePlacidCommunity@ironman.com or by phone at 888-497-5009.
